1. What type of classes do you offer?

The Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center (ARCC) offers classes to the public in a variety of the Arts. Classes in Visual Arts, Music, Dance,Social Dance, Literary, Cultural Arts, and Culinary Arts in addition to Leisure and Special Interest classes such as Dog Obedience, Financial Planning, Exercise, Language classes, Gardening classes, Computer/Technology classes and more.

2. How do I register for a class?

You can register for a class by stopping by our offices at 225 SE Third Avenue, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; or by calling in your registration to 605-626-7081 or 605-626-7015. Payment of the class upon registration is required. We take payment by check, cash or credit/debit card.

3. Do you offer any scholarships?

We offer a reduced fee for passes and recreation programs to youth 17 years of age and younger that are under qualified low income families. Personal income is verified by the South Dakota Department of Labor. Youth who are eligible to participate in the program may sign up for any department activity, class, or season pass at a 70% discount. 4. What is the cancellation policy for classes and activities?

The Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department reserves the right to cancel, combine, or divide classes, or to change the time, date or location of classes, or make other revisions wwhich may be necessary.

If a class is cancelled due to insufficient registrants, participants are given the opportunity to transfer to another class of equal value or recieve a full refund.

If a registrant requests a refund from an activity that has not been cancelled by the Department, the class fee may be transferred to a credit for another class or activity. If the participant requests a cash refund instead of a credit, a $5.00 per person per activity fee will be deducted from the full refund.

5. Do you prorate your fees?

We do not prorate fees for classes and activities.

6. How do I know where my class will be held?

You can find directions to your class area by asking the Information Desk employee to point you in the right direction to your classroom. Please feel free to ask for assistance.

7. Should I bring my own supplies to classes, or are supplies provided?

You will be notified upon registration if supplies are included with the class, or a supply list will be provided to you for supply purchase before the first class meeting.

8. Do you offer childcare for the children adults who are registered for classes at the ARCC?

We do not offer childcare for participants enrolled in ARCC programs.

9. My child is registered for two classes, but one class begins much later than the first one ends. Is there a place for him/her to wait until the next class?

There is a small waiting area across from the Information Desk. We do not provide supervision for waiitng children. It is suggested that if the wait is longer than 15 minutes, the parent should remain with the student. Under no circumstances are minors permitted to roam the building unattended.

10. Is there an area to get snacks if my child will be at the ARCC for an extended period of time?

There are two beverage machines and one snack machine located in the first floor annex. The ARCC desk does not provide change for vending machines.

11. Do you offer classes for special groups?

On occasion, classes may be requested for a private group or organization. Please contact us at 605-626-7081 for more details.

12. Who are your instructors, and how are they selected?

Our instructors are qualified people from Aberdeen and surrounding communities. Many of the instructors are professionals in their areas, while others have an extensive knowledge of their subject matter. Instructors are selected for their knowledge and skill areas as well as their desire to share their talents and ability to teach a vareity of students. All instructors are screened by the City of Aberdeen's Personnel Department and must pass a background check.

13. How may I become an instructor at the ARCC?

We are always looking for top quality instructors to offer unique courses! We choose class offerings based on participants’ interests and space availability.
