They say time flies when you are having fun and that seems to be the case for me as I am nearing the completion of my first year as Aberdeen City Manager. Since my first task when I arrived was preparing the budget for 2021, that means it is time for the 2022 budget planning to begin. One of the most uncomfortable tasks in my first few months on the job was to balance the 2020 Promotions Fund and recommending cuts to the 2021 allocations. With the support of the City Council, the 2020 cuts were minimized by backfilling with general fund revenues. Once the balancing act was complete, I pledged to myself that we would have to make some tough choices in the 2022 budget to make sure we keep the Promotions Fund balanced and used for intended purposes as we move forward.
Attached is a link with the updated guidelines for applying for the 2022 Promotions Fund and information on how the proposals will be evaluated. Please review these carefully as you consider if your organization matches the criteria for applications. If you feel your request matches the criteria, then please submit a "Promotion Fund Request Form" to the City Manager's office no later than 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact me at your earliest convenience.
