Sanitary Inflow and Infiltration

The City of Aberdeen is in the process of identifying and correcting problems with storm water infiltrating the sanitary sewer system causing issues with excess flows in the collection system and at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.  Attached is a drawing of some of the potential sources of Inflow and Infiltration.

An ongoing study of the infiltration problem has provided areas of concerns. Areas that have been studied, have had a combination of flow metering, flow modeling, TV camera inspection and most recently smoke testing.

The City is in the process of implementing a sump pump discharge inspection program with the intent to have all extraneous discharges going to the street, storm sewer, or back yard rather than into the City's sanitary sewer collection system.
