Eligibility Requirements
Candidates will meet the following requirements to be eligible to participate in the Police Department's student intern program:
- Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years old.
- Candidates must have the written approval of a faculty advisor and parent or guardian, as required.
- Candidates must complete the designated application and all included forms (including a waiver of liability). This paperwork must be complete and accurate.
- Candidates must pass a background investigation and oral interview conducted by the program director.
Acceptance of Students
Students currently enrolled as a student in a local high school, college, or university, or Brown County students enrolled in an out-of-state college or university will be given preference for the program. Other applicants will be considered and accepted at the discretion of the Services Division commander.
Only the chief of police or their designee can grant final approval of the internship. The institution and the student will be notified in writing of that approval. Only when final approval has been given by the chief of police may the intern be admitted to the internship program.
