Registration Information
Programs are filled on a first-pay, first-served basis, preregistration by the published deadline is required. Payment can be made by credit or debit card by phone or by check or cash in person. Online Registration also available. All classes are subject to 6.5% sales tax. Please call the Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center for more information at 626-7081.

Registration for Summer Programs begins on Tuesday, May 4, 7:00 a.m.

LOOM WEAVING


Learn several aspects of weaving and setting up a multiple harness loom from warp calculations to fully dressing it. Each student will have a loom to set up and work on. Classes range from Beginning Weaving; Advanced Beginning Weaving; to Individual Study; Beginning students will weave a small hand towel. Advanced Beginning Students will weave a small table runner. Individual Study projects depend on what the student wishes to learn and weave. There is a material fee of $20 or more depending on project chosen payable to the instructor. The ARCC has 15 looms available for students but each session is limited to 4 students. Ages 18 and up.

DRAFTING FOR HANDWEAVERS
This class is a continuation of last Summer’s Intro to Drafting for Handweavers. Participants will continue to utilize the book titled “The Complete Book of Drafting for Handweavers” by Madelyn van der Hooght, and be covering chapters 5 - 8. Students must have their own book before class starts. This course will include reading as well as writing drafts by following lessons in the book.
Prerequisite: Taken the Intro to Drafting for Handweavers covering chapters 1 - 4.

INTRODUCTION TO DSLR PHOTOGRAPHY

An introduction to digital photography. Learn the basic rules of photography including the use of the camera, lighting, composition, as well as tricks and tips for different situations and how to tell a story with your photography. Perfect for all areas of photographic interest.  Ages 14 and up.

THE PATH TO ABSTRACTION
An introduction to the visual language of abstraction through the explorations of point, line, circles, and primary colors; the primary basis used to express music, nature, architecture, and times. This course will focus on observations of our surroundings and exploratory emotional responses, without being tied to a recognizable subject matter, towards fully abstract compositions.  Ages 12 and up.

GOUACHE PAINTING WITH MIXED MEDIA
Story telling at its best! Inspired by our surroundings, through observations and life experiences to create both representative and non-objective artworks. This class focuses on gouache paint, techniques, color mixing, and mixed media. Ages 16 and up.

UKE GOT A FRIEND IN ME!
An introduction to playing the ukulele. Learn some simple single string melodies, riffs, and a handful of chords so you can strum some of your favorite songs. Come play along, and develop some awesome uke skills.
(Session B is a continuation of session A, intended to give participants a chance at learning more advanced skills.)

ART BREAK - GUIDED OPEN STUDIO


Keep your mind and spirit healthy! Come to the ARCC for some drop in, DIY art therapy through self-directed activities! Studies have shown that Art can take your mind off of what is stressing you. The Open Studio sessions are not product oriented – just enjoy the process! Activities can vary from art journaling, coloring, creative drawing from pattern recognition, scrapping, zentangle art, and creative writing. Or work on your own projects brought from home, and work in a relaxing stress free atmosphere. Sessions meet weekly. Some supplies are provided for activities listed, or you may bring your own in! Remember - we aren’t concerned about creating works of art (although it may be a by-product), just the act of letting our activity take us away! Ages 18 and up.

OPEN WEAVING STUDIO


The weaving studio will be open, while class is not in session, for personal projects on one of the ARCC’s looms. Participants must provide their own supplies necessary to complete their project. Fee includes use of loom and any of the ARCC’s weaving equipment in the studio not being used for classes. No instruction will be available during open studio time. Open weaving studio participants MUST schedule an appointment for an initial orientation prior to working in the studio, as well as sign in at the front desk, each time prior to utilizing the studio space.

OPEN POTTERY STUDIO


The pottery studio will be open for use during off-class times for practice with hand building, wheel throwing and other projects involving stoneware, chads bod, or earthenware clay. Clay fees include clay, glaze, and one bisque and glaze firings, (excluding alternative firings).
*Open Studio hours are Wednesdays, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
*Ages: high school students through adult.
(Open pottery studio participants must schedule an appointment for orientation prior to working in the studio, as well as sign in at the front desk, each time prior to utilizing the studio space.)

VISUAL ARTS PRIVATE LESSON


Private, semi-private, and group lessons from professionally trained advanced level artists and educators, will be offered in Acrylics, Drawing, Oil Painting, Pottery, Sculpture, Watercolor, and many other artistic media. Lessons will be held in designated ARCC studios, during business hours when space is available. Private lessons are available for participants ages 16 and up pending chosen field of study, and ages 18 and up for Glasswork, Electroforming and Metal Work. Participant may be under 16, pending instructor approval and availability.
