A Continuing Partnership with the Aberdeen School District
The school resource officer (SRO) continues to be a valuable asset in our continuing partnership with the Aberdeen School District. The SRO program is based on the TRIAD concept, which signifies the philosophy of the SRO adhering to the following roles:
- Counselor
- Law enforcement officer
- Teacher
SRO Functions
As a counselor, the SRO provides informal counseling to students and parents based on their expertise as a law enforcement officer. The SRO works closely with the school’s counseling staff and provides information on community services and the law to students, parents, and staff.
As a law enforcement officer, the SRO investigates crimes that happen at school and, if necessary, makes arrests based on their investigations. The SRO works as a liaison between the school and police communities and is a positive role model for students.
As a teacher, the SRO is considered a member of the faculty and administration. SRO officers provide law-related education to the students, parents, and staff on request. The SRO also plays the role of guest speaker in the classroom.
