Youth Programs (Birth - 12th Grade)
• Virtual Story Time – Tuesdays, September 8th – November 24th at 10:00AM for all ages
Children will be introduced to the incredible world of language and books through stories, songs, activities and more! Topics change weekly and help prepare your child for successful school experiences using the early literacy components. We will continue to have special guests and speakers. Story Time generally lasts about 30 minutes. No registration required. You can watch Story Time on our Facebook page @publiclibraryaberdeensd. Story Time will be either live or posted by 10:00AM on our Facebook page.
• Virtual Puppet Show – Friday, October 30th at 10:00AM for all ages.
Join some of your favorite characters for some Halloween fun! We will be doing Halloween stories, songs and more! You can watch the puppet show on our Facebook page @publiclibraryaberdeensd.
• Make and Take Mondays: K-2nd Grades
We will be offering a variety of make and take programs in September through November. There will be kits available for pick up at the library in the Children’s Room. We have a limited number of kits, so it will be on a first come first served basis. We will post the video on our Facebook page @publiclibraryaberdeensd in the afternoon the day of the program for the kids to follow along and learn how to use the kits. No registration required. **ALL KITS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE CHILDREN'S ROOM THE THURSDAY BEFORE**
o September 21st – Mystery Bag with Harry – be creative and make something for Harry with items provided. Harry will also be provided.
o October 5th – CD Sun catchers – items will be provided to make your own sun catcher.
o October 19th – Owl Pellet Dissection Kit – dissect your owl pellet and see what you find inside.
o November 2nd – Build Your Own Boat Kit – build your own boat and see if you can make it float with items provided.
o November 16th – LEGO Challenges – we will provide the challenges while you build at home with your LEGOs.
• Make and Take Thursdays: Tweens/Teens (3rd-12th Grades)
We will be offering a variety of make and take programs in September through November for those in 3rd – 12th grades. There will be kits available for pick up at the library in the Children’s Room. We have a limited number of kits so it will be on a first come first served basis. We will post the video on our Facebook page @publiclibraryaberdeensd in the afternoon the day of the program for the kids to follow what we are doing. o September 17th – CD Case Picture Frame – CD cases will be provided to make the frame. Be creative as you make your own frame.
o October 1st – Cooking – you will be given all the ingredients to make your own Zebra Cake.
o October 15th – Tile Art – create your own tile art with paint markers. Tiles provided.
o October 29th – Cooking – you will be given all the ingredients to make your own No Bake Cookies & Cream Bars.
o November 12th – Mini PomPom Pets – a kit will be provided for you to make your own pets out of pompoms.

• Virtual Cooking Class: Thursdays, October 15th and November 19th at 6:00PM
Join us from your home and learn how to make a few Japanese dishes via Zoom with Kirika Shimmei, Japan Outreach Initiative Coordinator, from NSU. She will be demonstrating how to make Oyakodon and Omuraisu, which are one-plate main dishes. Kirika will be providing the rice and Dashi you will need to make the dishes, we will have those available at the Children's Desk after you register. Registration will be required. We will send you a Zoom link and password to join the class as well as the ingredients needed to make the dish. You are welcome to watch and cook or make the dishes later. Registration for both cooking classes will be available September 14th on the library website, aberdeen.sd.us/library.
o October – Oyakodon – this dish that is made with rice, eggs and chicken.
o November – Omuraisu – is a dish similar to a rice omelet. It is made with rice, eggs and chicken.
