Youth Classes

Registration Begins Monday, January 3 at 8:00 a.m.

Programs are filled on a first-pay, first-served basis, preregistration by the published deadline is required. Payment can be made by credit or debit card by phone or by check or cash in person. NEW! CRASH COURSE IN WRITING FOR TEENS - NEW DATES!
A somewhat quick introduction into writing short stories, poetry, or starting a novel. This Four-week class will focus on the basics types of creative writing and all of the tricks of the trade. Participants will be assisted in discovering where their writing talents lie, developing works in the chosen medium. Ages 12-18.

PARENT/CHILD WHEEL THROWN POTTERY CLASS
Learn how to throw pots on a potter’s wheel together with one of your favorite people! Class size will be limited to 4 pairs for individualized attention. Three weeks are devoted to working on the wheel; the last week will be spent glazing your creations. Come to class prepared to get dirty. For children in grades 2 and up with parent/guardian.

NEW! POTTERY PALS - STORY TIME!
Gather around and listen to a story, then recreate a part of the story using low fire clay, and your imagination. Kids and their adult pal work together on projects using earthenware clay, and low fire glazes. The first three weeks will be dedicated to hand building, the last week dedicated to painting your creations with ceramic glaze. This is a great opportunity to spend time together while sharing a new hobby and plenty of fun memories. Ages 5 and up with adult.

BACKYARD ASTRONOMY FOR YOUTH
Did you know you can see a galaxy 2 ½ million light-years away with your unaided eyes? Craters on the Moon with binoculars? Countless wonders await you any clear night. The first step in astronomy for beginners is simply to look up and ask, “What’s that?” This class will introduce you to a lifetime of enjoyment viewing the night sky. Bring your binoculars, telescope or nothing. Youth ages 12 - 18 are encouraged to attend. People wishing to participate should put their name on the interest list at The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Office by March 10, by calling 626-7015.
