  1. National Police Week

    May 15, 2017, 6:00 AM - May 20, 2017

President John F. Kennedy declared the first Peace Officers' Memorial Day on May 15, 1962, as a tribute to peace officers and in honor of peace officers who, through their courageous deeds, lost their lives or became disabled in the line of duty. This day has been observed in our country annually ever since, and the week it falls has been designated as National Police Week. On this day, and every day, it is fitting to honor those peace officers who gave their lives to protect ours, and to thank the law enforcement officers who serve for their dedication and service to our communities.

  2. Retail Anti-Theft Coalition Meeting

    May 17, 2017, 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM @ APD Community Room

In order to help fight shoplifting, the Aberdeen Police Department, Runnings and the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce teamed up in January, 2016, to develop the Retail Coalition. The purpose is to prevent losses from theft through sharing information about known shoplifters, shoplifting trends and best practices. In addition, the coalition will share ideas on loss prevention. What works and what doesn't? Are there ways to modify what we do to make it more successful? Some of the area the coalition aims to address are: •How and when to involve police officers •What information to obtain for best chance of conviction •Specific techniques for confrontation and to monitor activity •Employee training •Other areas of loss prevention such as employee theft. Anyone is welcome to attend these meetings. They are normally held the second Wednesday of each month at 10:30 am in the Community Room at the Aberdeen Public Safety Building (Police Department).
