Storybook Land is celebrating providing 40 years of family fun! The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department invites everyone to participate in a fun filled weekend to commemorate this special milestone. Special activities are planned throughout the summer season but the Family Fun Weekend activities will kick off the anniversary celebration. Don’t miss the excitement of the Family Fun Weekend! Everyone is invited to the Humpty Dumpty Roller Coaster dedication ceremony that is planned for Friday, June 10 at 6 p.m. at Storybook Land by the roller coaster picnic plaza. The Aberdeen Sertoma Club and the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department wishes to thank everyone who made another dream come true. After the dedication ceremony, enjoy a special treat! Register for prizes to be given away and don’t miss the special performance by the Storybook Land Theatre Company in the Castle at 7:30 p.m. Thanks again for your support!


This event will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Storybook Land with a Fun Run for the whole family as well as avid runners. Participants are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite Storybook Land Character. Prizes will be given for best dressed and most original.
Where: Wylie Park/Storybook Land
When: Saturday, June 11
Time: 10:00 am. Registration begins at 9:30 am
Event: 2 Mile Run—with special kid’s event.
Divisions: open to runners of all ages and skill levels
Awards: Various awards will be presented and door prizes given out.
Fee: $3.00 per person or $5.00 per family


When: Saturday, June 11, 1:30-3 p.m.
Where: Wylie Park
Registration: 1 p.m. south of the Pavilion
Equipment: All contestants must furnish their own bait and tackle.
Grades: Preschool-2 and 3-6
Awards: Trophies will be given to winners in each age category for the largest fish and the largest number of fish caught.
Fee: No Charge
Sponsor: Aberdeen Firefighters Local 446 and Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Dept.


As part of the Family Fun Weekend, family teams will have the opportunity to compete for prizes by building either a sand castle or sculpture at the Wylie Beach on Saturday, June 11. Prizes will be awarded on originality, complexity and finishing of the best castle structure and best sculpture structure.
Registration begins at 3:30 p.m.
Building is limited between the hours of 4 -5 p.m.
All ages are welcome.
Teams should provide their own building materials and tools.

Bring a blanket or chair, and enjoy a free outdoor movie in the Castle in Storybook Land. Concessions are available for purchase. The movie Aladdin will begin at dusk. No alcohol allowed in Storybook Land, and please no smoking or littering.

As part of the Family Fun Weekend and the 40th Anniversary of Storybook Land, put on your best Indiana Jones hat and follow the clues on the Storybook Land treasure trail to find the hidden treasures. Afterwards, meet up at the Visitor Center to quench your thirst at the watermelon feed!
