Storybook Land Arts Activities

Available Activities

A wide variety of activities in the arts are scheduled during June, July, and early August at the Storybook Land castle in Wylie Park. The summer is filled with theatre performances by the Aberdeen’s Storybook Land Theatre Company, musical entertainment by guest children’s performers, and numerous arts and crafts. The annual Storybook Land Festival at the end of July is a highlight of the year in Wylie Park.

All activities will be held in the Castle unless otherwise noted. The Optimist Club is proud to sponsor the Monday and Thursday Storybook Land Activities. These weekly activities are free for the entire family's enjoyment.

June 27 Waterfight at the OK Corral: Squirt gun fights a ten paces; bucket brigade relays; water balloons and sponge fights galore! Just in time for some warm weather fun! July 11 Something's Fishy: It may be kind of gross - but fun! We'll have a few fish for you to do your own Gyotaku (fish) prints! Storybook Land Musical Concerts At The Visitors Center

A series of three musical performances have been scheduled on Thursdays at the Storybook Land Visitor's Center. Come out to relax and enjoy these free concerts in air conditioned comfort. All ages.
Concerts are held at 7 pm

Thursday, June 23 - Summer String Ensemble

-- Listen to pop and light classic selections from the Summer String Ensemble led by Ms. Nancy Ohnstad. This music is for people of all ages.

Thursday, July 7 -- The Dakota Sunshine Singers

-- This group will provide a variety of music from old time favorites to patriotic and inspirational. Sponsored by the Aberdeen Area Senior Center, the group has performed at community events, retirement homes, churches and for special occasions throughout northeastern South Dakota. Their music provides something for everyone.

Thursday, July 21 -- Summer String Ensemble

-- New selections performed by the Summer Strings Ensemble and led by Ms. Nancy Ohnstad will surely delight young and old!
