COVID-19

The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department (including the Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center (ARCC), Aberdeen Senior Center, Washington Street Gym and YAPA) has modified some of its programs and operation due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.  These modifications may be subject to further change as the situation regarding COVID-19 continues to evolve.  Unless otherwise instructed, the following procedures will be implemented for the health and safety of our patrons, their families and our staff:

Class sizes will be set so that participants will be able to spread out in the classrooms/studios.

All programming spaces at the Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center and the Washington Street Gym will be ventilated with a continuous supply of fresh air while occupied.

Classrooms will be stocked with hand sanitizer and appropriate surfaces will be cleaned between classes.

Temperatures of all students and staff will be taken before each activity begins.

All teachers and staff will wear masks when the recommended distancing of 6 feet cannot be maintained.

Students/program participants are welcome to wear masks.

Families are encouraged to drop students off, or escort younger students to class and then leave the building promptly.

Public seating areas including dance observation rooms will be closed to encourage social distancing measures.

Locker rooms and the dance changing room will be closed.  Program participants should come dressed for the activity.

In the event that conditions warrant limiting public gatherings, activities may be adapted to an online platform (where applicable) for as long as necessary.
This plan will be modified as conditions change and as new information about the virus is made public.

Assumption of Risk

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization.  COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact.  The Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department has put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19, however the Department cannot guarantee that individuals will not become infected with COVID-19.  Participation in Department activities could increase the risk of contracting COVID-19.
